Two of DCS objectives are – to encourage the preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest, and to encourage high standards of architecture and planning in Duddingston Conservation Area and its surroundings.
To this end the DCS reviews all planning applications which impact on the Conservation Area, and if the society considers the impact is detrimental to the conservation character of the area, we will submit comments to the local authority planning department.
We have recently agreed a set of planning principles which will be used to judge whether the DCS should object, support or take no action on development proposals. People considering making alterations to or extending a house or building a new one within the conservation area are encouraged to take note of these principles and discuss the proposal with the DCS committee.
